Professional Health
Advisory Council (PHAC)
Luncheon
Next date: Wednesday, January
25, 2011
12 noon - 1:30 p.m. -
UMB Campus Center - Room
203
Speaker: Dan Morhaim,
M.D.
Dr.
Morhaim will present his new book, "The Better
End ~ Surviving (and Dying) on Your
Own Terms
in Today's Modern Medical
World"
"The
Better End" gives readers an informative and
accessible tool kit for navigating end-of-life
care for themselves and their loved ones.
The challenge
is to get the best outcome, not only from new
medical possibilities but also from the
emotional, spiritual, and psychological wisdom
of humanity's past and present. How we make
these choices depends upon our individual
values and our access to information.
The presentation will spark discussion,
one that is sorely needed in our society today.
The book empowers people to take control of
their care at a difficult time, but one that is
also full of grace, and one that unavoidably we
all must confront. Fundamentally, “The Better
End” is a guide to getting the best of modern
medical care with the respectful loving care
and human touch we all
deserve. Lunch provided - no
charge. To RSVP,
email susan@ncaddmaryland.org.
One of the organizations that NCADD-MD is proud to work with is The Maryland Professional Health Advisory Council (MD-PHAC). MD-PHAC is a group of professionals interested in the treatment of healthcare providers, attorneys, executives and other professionals who are dealing with mental health problems, substance use disorders (such as alcohol dependency and drug abuse), cognitive impairment or disruptive behavior.
The Recovery Leadership Program provides members of the recovery community throughout the state of Maryland with the knowledge and tools to effectively impact public policies and public understanding of the disease of alcohol and drug addiction, its treatment, prevention and support for recovery. The RLP also works on the implementation and policies of how Health Care Reform and the Affordable Care Act will change access to treatment. As recovery advocates, we know that recovering people and allies often serve as the key educators about recovery, which lessens stigma and discrimination toward recovering people and their families. For more information about The Recovery Leadership Program, please contact Susan Pompa, RLP Coordinator at 410-625-6482 ext. 102 or email: susan@ncaddmaryland.org.
