Our Contributions

February 1992

the Maryland Chapter formed the Access to Treatment program that assists individuals in finding treatment. At this time, a part-time addictions counselor, with more than 20 years' experience in the field, was hired to screen calls made to the information and referral line and referred people to treatment programs in Maryland. Since then, a state-funded, state-wide locator service has been established and is available to the public.

January 2000

the Maryland Chapter hired its first full-time staff person to coordinate the government relations and advocacy efforts of the organization. We are happy to say that this staff person still serves as our legislative consultant for all of our advocacy needs and leads the statewide coalition called ATAC - Addiction Treatment Advocates Committee.

March 2014

the Maryland Chapter led the legislative efforts to get the Good Samaritan Law passed in Maryland. The law was enacted to encourage people to call for help when someone is facing a medical emergency due to drugs or alcohol. Maryland is one of 47 other states and the District of Columbia that have enacted some form of a Good Samaritan or 9-1-1 drug immunity law.

Know your rights!

Our prepared material helps you to understand your insurance/treatment rights. The Mental Health Parity And Addiction Equity Act (Parity Act  of 2009) requires most health insurance plans and Medicaid programs to provide the same level of coverage for MH/SUD care as they do for medical care.

Stronger Together:

NCADD-MD Collaborations

We know that when it comes to advocacy, there is strength in numbers. We have made great strides in connecting with other advocacy groups to build a solid network of supporters to fight for or against many policies, relating to addiction treatment, mental health and recovery, that are introduced each year during the legislative session.
